Experience
Firstly I will say that I am a total beginner, I have never listened to this program before, also I don't know how to use GitHub. Therefore, It was very challenging for me. But finally, I succeeded and I got a T-Shirt and Swag.
Last month, I was using YouTube and came to know about this program through video. Then I was looking for a contribution but the problem was how to contribute 🤣.
After that, I watched a video of Kunal and got an idea of the contribution. I read the blog recommended by the hactoberfest (Amazing Blog). Then I made the first contribution that was not accepted and in similar ways, I made more contributions but all were not accepted and even one was excluded by the maintainer. Here is the list of PRs:
At that time I was looking for the very easy because for me to know the project was very difficult and also I was looking for shortcut but in the end I failed. After a few days, I got a very good and interesting project which was Certificate Generator and Project Page. The project easy but was interesting and got merged. In this way, I made the four PRs.
Now I am realizing that It was very easy to contribute. The only thing is to first wait for the maintainer to assign, then contribute and read the requirements of the maintainer so that you project get merged successfully. I learnt many things during contribution. Many of the connections I build.
Now the next time 🤠 it will going to easiest for me to participate.
Finally, I succeed and got a mail that all four PRs are merged and getting rewarded.
Conclusion
Try to search for the good first issue. Don't spam PRs, Don't add code Directly from the internet, and Don't add PRs only in your friend repo to get it accepted. You may win in the short term but the long term requires Hard work. Don't make PRs without Reading Readme, Repos have their own rule.
